8:15 PM EST. The Twins will send out a rookie starter here and they’re also struggling with a 13-17 record but we could not care less, as this wager is a straight fade on the Cardinals and their starter, which we will discuss below but here’s how Fernando Romero’s career started five days ago when he made his MLB debut against the Blue Jays. Romero looked pretty good with five K’s in 5.2 innings, an 11% swing and miss rate, 57% grounders and allowing just four hits. We’re not going to put a lot of emphasis on one start but we’ll gladly fade his mound opponent.

Cardinals/Cubs is the National League’s version of Yankees/Red Sox. This past weekend in St. Louis, the Cardinals played to a full house and they responded by sweeping the Cubs, capped off by last night’s emotionally charged two-run, walk-off homer by Dexter Fowler in the bottom of the 14th inning with the Cardinals down 3-2. It was a celebration that started about 2:00 AM EST and probably lasted for a while longer. After such an emotionally charged game and weekend, the AL Twins come to town and the Cardinals might be sleeping.

Then there’s John Gant. If you’ve never heard of Gant, you’re not alone, as he’s never done anything noteworthy and now he’s favored in this range because why? Gant went 0-1 with a 4.67 ERA in 17 innings for the Cards last year. After his season was delayed by a groin strain, he spent most of last year in AAA tightening his control and command. With St. Louis, Gant pitched out of the pen before being trounced in two starts and giving up three jacks in nine innings. John Gant was traded from Atlanta to St. Louis in 2016 and had perhaps the weirdest windup ever. This past spring, the Cardinals had him change his windup so here’s a guy that is working with a new windup and testing it out at this level. We cannot overstate how difficult a transition that can be and the Cardinals are going to find out tonight if Gant has made any progress. Do you want to pay a premium to find out in this extremely vulnerable spot? We don’t. In any case, here is the best we could find on Gant’s old and new windups.
