3:45 PM EST. Clayton Richard (LHP) draws a road start at San Francisco. Richard struggles against SF batters (.942 OPS), and did just that en route to a rocky start v SF three starts back. Control problems and being barreled-up far too frequently make Richard a gamble even against a second-division offense like the Giants. There are some pros though to his profile. Richards has a rock-solid groundball rate of 54% and he strikes out a lot of lefties but continues to get tattooed by righties. A positive return will depend on RHB containment and we’ll see how that goes today, as the Giants will have five or six righties in there and only two or three lefties. We’re just pointing out the risks and giving you the skinny on Clayton Richards. Truth is, this wager is all about fading San Fran’s starter, who cannot be priced in this range against anyone, even a team that we insist is better than its record.

Derek Holland (LHP) has one quality start in five tries and comes in with an 0-3 record and a 5.76 ERA. Holland is an experienced starter and with that comes the hope of a lot of new team/new league magic. It will take Holland more than sleight of hand to recover from an awful 2017 with 2H numbers (7.94 xERA) that border on obscene.

Holland struggled against San Diego three starts back (and current Padre bats own a small-sample 1.209 OPS vs. Holland), and the veteran lefty has had some gopher-ball-control-running-into-too-many-bats problems of late. Holland walked four in his last start; he allowed three HRs in the turn prior. Dude is fade material until further notice.
