7:05 PM EST. Tanner Roark (RHP) sits in the middle of the pack in just about every category. Roark is one of these starters that are so unpredictable because he’s off just as much as he’s on. However, what we know is that he’s been tagged for four jacks in just 11 innings at home. One only needs to look at Roark’s shaky 36%/24%/40% groundball/line-drive/fly-ball profile to get an idea of why balls are leaving the park. This is a risky profile and Washington’s bullpen has trouble getting one out, let alone three. Washington’s pen ranks 25th out of 30 teams in both ERA and xERA. The market perception on Washington is that they’re in the upper echelon of MLB and that’s true when Stephen Strasburg or Max Scherzer is on the hill. However, when anyone else is starting, they’re an average team and we should find many more opportunities like this one to fade them.

Jameson Taillon was torched in his last start at home against Detroit in which he allowed 10 hits and seven runs in 3.2 innings. In the start before that, Tallion was again torched, this time in Philadelphia in which he lasted just 1.2 innings after being tagged for two jacks and five runs but we’re not concerned in the least. Every pitcher in this league will get torched in a few starts but when it happens early, it looks bad on the surface and the market reacts. James Taillon has filthy stuff. He surrendered a mere nine hits over his first three starts combined over a combined 20 innings. Taillon had the most electric first start among any starter in the game in those first three starts and he’s still maintained that elite level 55% groundball rate. At age 26 and with top-shelf raw stuff, Taillon remains a great breakout target for 2018 and is absolutely worth getting behind at a price.
