7:05 PM EST. We are not fans of Mike Fiers and will not sugarcoat this and say he’s good but what Fiers does is throw strikes (3 walks in 17 innings) and induces enough ground-balls to make him playable here. Fiers is among the many rollercoaster starters this league has to offer and we’ll live with whatever he delivers today because this wager is all about fading Baltimore and their starter, Chris Tillman. Furthermore, over their last eight games, the Tigers scored 12 runs or more three times, which is an example of just how dangerous an offense they can be when facing weak starters. Chris Tillman might be the most useless starter in the game and if we’re falling victim to a sucker bet here, shame on us.

Last year was basically a lost season for Tillman partly due to some early shoulder soreness that likely lingered the entire year. Problem is, even healthy, the pre-2017 version wasn't very appealing. Stagnantly poor first-pitch strikes and swing and misses give him little upside. Those prior mid-3s ERAs always came with hit % and strand % help and this year, things could not be looking worse. In 17 frames over four starts, Tillman has walked 11 and struck out eight. He has a 49% first-pitch strike rate and a 4% swing and miss rate, not to mention an ugly 36%/29%/35% groundball/line-drive/fly-ball profile with a fast ball that tops out at 89 MPH. Chris Tillman is batting practice out there and a disaster waiting to happen.
