2:10 PM EST. After the first seven + games of the season, the White Sox lead the majors with a .899 OPS. If indeed all things even out than the South Side are in line for offensive regression and that could very easily begin here against Michael Fulmer. In his young career, Fulmer has been able to negotiate risk of low K totals by throwing strikes and keeping the ball in the yard. He was clicking again last season until an elbow injury compromised his second half K-rate and blew up his ERA/xERA before season-ending surgery in September. His stock was high going into last year but those results have his stock much lower this year. That makes us buyers. If healthy, and he appeared to be in his first start, 2018 should approximate 2017 1st half, minus the hr/f help. Fulmer is solid.

Lucas Giolito went 3-3 with a 2.38 ERA in 45 inning for the South Side last season. His low MLB ERA was all about hit % and strand % fortune, as his xERA was 4.45. Lower velocity dimmed his prospect star a bit, as was his lack of command. In his first start this teat, Giolito walked four batters and struck out one over six full innings at Kansas City. That’s a bit disturbing. The most glaring issue coming into the season was re the absence of even an average K-rate and he did nothing to alleviate that issue in start number one in 2018. At 23, he still has time but we’re not paying for the South Side’s patience.
