Mackenzie Hughes -125 over Henrik Stenson

8:15 AM EST. Henrik Stenson is getting far too much credit here. Dude should probably be closer to +200 or more but he has pedigree and is much more known than Hughes so here we are. With The Masters on deck, Henrik’s focus isn’t likely going to be on this event. Henrik’s window of opportunity to wear the Green Jacket is closing quickly, as he is 44 years-old and has lost his edge. He made one cut in his last four events (one was a withdrawal). He missed the cut at the U.S. Open after firing 74 & 77 on Thursday and Friday respectively.

Stenson tumbled toward an 8-over 43 on his outward nine in the second round at the Bermuda Championship and then withdrew from the event, citing a foot (ankle) injury. Stenson needs to fuel his confidence tank before The Masters and thus, we are in attack mode.

We couldn’t be happier that Hughes is the man opposite of Stenson in the betting market. There’s no doubt that Mackenzie Hughes is at his best when the conditions require a winning score to be ground out, and that looks like it might be the case this week. We’re getting Hughes at a bargain because he hasn’t been in great form recently but pay no attention because it’s only around the greens where he is really elite – neither the CJ Cup nor the ZOZO Championship really suited.

Hughes’ brilliance when scrambling around the putting surface is where he is fast becoming one of the most reliable chippers in the business, and while others will be terrified by some of their lays this week at the bottom of banks, this Canadian will truly embrace the challenge. Hughes ranks 6th ON TOUR in SG: Around-the-Green and 8th ON TOUR in SG: Putting. Mac Hughes is truly the bargain of the day and he also figures to be more focused, as he is not in the Masters (yet) while Henrik is. (Risking 2.5 units to win 2).
