7:00 PM EST. 7:00 PM EST. Anyone that follows CFL football knows that Bo-Levi Mitchell is to the CFL what Aaron Rodgers is to the NFL. Bo-Levi Mitchell was not only the face of the Stampeders for years, he was the face of the CFL. Bo Levi led the Stamps to a 1-1 record after two games to open the year but then he was injured and missed the last three games, giving way to a rookie QB named Jake Meier. In Mitchell’s absence, Calgary went 1-2 but trust us when we tell you that Bo Levi’s replacement was not the reason that Calgary lost two of three. Bo Levi’s replacement was the only reason that Calgary won one game and was close in a loss to Winnipeg. Jake Meier was also the reason that Calgary didn’t get blown out last week against Edmonton. In other words, Jake Meier was outstanding for Calgary. OUTSTANDING.

Bo Levi Mitchell threw five picks in two games before missing the last three weeks. Mitchell was showing signs of decline last year but the market does not care. The only thing that the market and oddsmakers see is the return of Bo-Levi Mitchell and with that comes a false sense of security.

Speaking of oddsmakers, those responsible for setting the CFL lines have been scrambling for weeks. It started in Week 1 when they didn’t know their ass from their elbows and put up a series of bad lines. The scrambling hasn’t stopped. Incidentally, if you recall, the lines came out very late in the first week of the season because books were extremely hesitant in putting up a price. The bad prices have continued and once again this week, we have spotted two games with very beatable numbers.

Calgary is getting far too much credit here by the oddsmakers because Bo Levi returns. We couldn’t be happier that a rusty, declining QB takes back the reins from a QB that gave his team a chance to win. Calgary looked dreadful in Weeks 1 and 2 against Toronto and B.C. respectively. Other than their QB, they looked dreadful in Week 3, 4 and 5 but we’ll reiterate that they’re getting far too much respect by oddsmakers in this price due to the return of Bo Levi Mitchell.

Meanwhile, Edmonton toyed with Calgary last week in Calgary. The Elks possess the best talent in the league at all the skill positions, including QB Trevor Harris who looks to be a grade above everyone else and in some instances two grades above everyone else. The Elkies, rank 1st in the league in total offense. They rank first in the league in total defense. They rank 1st in the league in every key category. Last week, Calgary was a ridiculous -6-point choice over Edmonton back in Calgary. Edmonton deserves to be the same price but oddsmakers were forced to post a second bad line in this week’s rematch because it would look like overcompensating. While we have no control over in-game variance and the way the ball bounces, we have control over who we pull the trigger on. In that regard, we’re going with the best of it here in a big way and thus, we’ll continue to attack these weak and beatable prices.
