7:30 PM EST. While we are mindful of an overreaction to Hamilton's 64-14 drubbing of Toronto last week, we are not ready to give the Alouettes the respect the market has headed into this Week 3 showdown. The Als were off in Week 2 after covering against the Eskimos up in Edmonton to open the season, but a closer look at that contest shows that the Eskies took their foot off the gas after taking a 25-8 lead into the fourth quarter. With Montreal spiraling down the drain, head coach Khari Jones turned to Vernon Adams Jr. down the stretch after Anthony Pipkin sprained his ankle. If you're keeping score at home, the Als are now on their second QB and second coach before the end of the first week of the season after Mike Sherman was sent packing days before kickoff to the 2019 campaign. Adams Jr. was serviceable in injury relief and went 7-of-10 for 134 yards and a touchdown leading the Als to a backdoor cover in a 32-25 defeat that certainly flattered the guests. Edmonton racked up 608 yards of offense to Montreal's 325 and if not for the penalties and turnovers, the Esks would have run away with that game. If you cashed your ticket on Montreal that day, as we did, congratulations, but do not be fooled by the misleading result. The Als offense was ill equipped to hang with Edmonton and that isn't going to change here.

Spotting a number such as this is not generally in our wheelhouse, but there are exceptions to every rule. Hamilton did not impress in their Week 1 win over Saskatchewan after the Roughriders lost starting quarterback Zach Collaros and they were sloppy with 10 penalties and two turnovers despite the 54-point margin of victory last week. However, asking  Adams Jr. to go throw-for-throw with Jeremiah Masoli, who has put up 507 passing yards and four majors in two games is not fair. The Als have a new defensive system and coordinator Bob Slowik admitted this week that he is still learning the Canadian game, as this is his first season in the league. "If there are any adjustments, you have to make them rapidly. That's something I have to grow into and get better at that." Week 3 of a season is not the time to be working out the kinks and the Als will have a makeshift unit this week after losing linebacker Bo Lokombo and safety Taylor Loffler. Because both players are Canadian, the Als will have to shuffle their lineup significantly to field the required seven Canucks in the starting lineup. If the Alouettes can keep this one close then so be it, but they are in tough here. The Argos are bad, but Montreal is a mess and might be worse. Swallow the points with confidence.
