7:30 PM EST. The Alouettes are trading at a near all-time low after losing 15 of their last 16 games. That level of ineptitude has arguably made them one of the toughest bets in not only the CFL but on the board tonight. Desperate times call for drastic measures. Enter Johnny Manziel, who continues to dominate CFL headlines on both sides of the border after the Alouettes paid quite the hefty price to bring in the former Texas A&M star to Montreal. Johnny Football will be reunited with Mike Sherman, who was the man that recruited Manziel to College Station. However, Johnny’s success as an Aggie came under Sherman’s successor, Kevin Sumlin, as Manziel was redshirted in Sherman’s last season. Regardless, Sherman was excited to finally coach the former first-round draft pick and stated emphatically, “We didn’t bring him here to sit on the bench.” The Als have stated that they are going to start Vernon Adams tonight at quarterback and that Manziel will see action, but even Adams knows his clock is ticking, “he’s (Manziel) coming here to play.” For his part, Manziel has kept a low profile since coming north of the 49th and he said all the right things at his introductory press conference this week. Johnny Football was thrown right into the mix, as he split first-team reps with Adams in practice. With CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie making the trip to Montreal and a brand new deal with ESPN in the United States in full effect, the pressure will be on Sherman to make sure Manziel gets his looks. The question of who will be getting the lion’s share of the snaps just might be enough to confuse one of the most overrated squads in the league.

The Eskimos are coming off a bye, which was plenty of time for them to be roasted in the papers after getting all they could handle in back-to-back games with the lowly Argonauts. TSN had the Eskies ranked #3 in their power rankings this week, but as far as we’re concerned, the only reason they aren’t any lower is that they weren’t able to display their awful brand of football. Edmonton is a known commodity and is usually in the thick of things, but this year’s team has taken a step back. The defense is non-existent and its receivers can’t make a catch with any consistency. Edmonton has given up 374 yards per game so far this season and quarterback Mike Reilly has only six multi-touchdown games in his last 11 starts. The Eskies are a one-man show and while Reilly is one of the league’s best, he can do it by himself. The Eskimos are very fortunate to be 3-3, as their only convincing victory came against the awful Lions. Spotting a huge pile of points on the road is not a bet we usually make, but this market does not seem to have that same hangup, as this game opened with Edmonton -8 and that number has now climbed into double digits. Sure, the Eskies have won eight straight against Montreal, but that should only fuel the home side. There has not been a buzz at Molson Stadium since Anthony Calvillo retired, but that used to be one of the best barns in the league. For its part, Edmonton has been a low percentage play when swinging this kind of lumber with just one cover in its last 10 games when spotting a touchdown or more. More importantly, spotting this type of number on the road in the CFL usually doesn’t work out well. The Als have a new start and they may just pull off the unthinkable here. Please note: We have leans posted daily on Twitter and you can follow us there for leans, possible late plays or any other info we might have to pass along.
