OT included. We’re not denying that the Habs are solid. We played them twice last week against the Rangers and Islanders and cashed both those tickets. However, we have to change gears here because of the price being offered on New Jersey. Despite winning four straight, the Canadiens had 28 shots on net or fewer in all of them. Montreal scored 17 goals over those four games, which sends their shooting percentage off the charts. Montreal leads the NHL in shooting percentage at 11.41%. The league average is under 9%. Montreal is on a four-game win streak but they are not creating more scoring chances than the opposition. With Carey Price and Brendon Gallagher out, the Habs are priced like both are playing.

We love the Devils in this price range. Three of New Jersey’s last four losses were by a single goal. The Devils had a 2-0 lead over the Habs last night but Montreal rallied to win it to take away the urgency of winning tonight. That’s not to say Montreal will play poorly but they are not badly in need of a win either. New Jersey got Patrik Elias back two games ago. He’s another legit scoring threat that they have badly missed. The Devils defense is outstanding with a Corsi against rating against that ranks first in the NHL. That ranking alone makes the Devils worthy of a wager in this price range. Win or lose here, we are going with the best of it in terms of pure value. Contrary to what the market thinks of the Devils, this is not a weak team at all and they’re just getting started. Big overlay.
