Zurich Classic
Zurich Classic

UPDATE: May 3. The Zurich Classic was delayed due to inclement weather all weekend long so on Monday, the tournament was shortened to 54 holes. With 8 holes remaining, JAMIE LOVEMARK was a co-leader and we tweeted out that the cashout option on LOVEMARK was 18-1 at BET365. We subsequently tweeted out that we were going to use that option and cashout our bet of 0.4 units at 18-1.

Therefore 0.4 units x 18-1 = a profit of 7.2 units.

We lost three outright winners at 0.4 units each for a total loss of 1.2 units

Our heads-up wager between Lovemark and An was a push...

THEREFORE 7.2 units in wins -1.2 units in losses = a net profit of 6 units for this EVENT

Zurich Classic head-to-head matchup

wager made at Pinnacle

Event begins on Thursday, April 29

This week we want long ball hitters who can control their putters.  We're willing to overlook a player's poor accuracy if they excel in some of the other key stats for defeating TPC Louisiana. It's a long track with tight fairways and tricky greens, so scrambling and Strokes Gained Putting are important as well.

Last year’s winner, Justin Rose ranked 12th in Driving Distance, T3 in Driving Accuracy, 4th in Scrambling, and T12 in Strokes Gained Putting. That was definitely a recipe for success here and this year's winner will most likely finish the week leading in similar statistical categories:

#7024 Jamie Lovemark -103 over Byeong Hun An  Pinnacle -103

Byeong-Hun An hasn’t played since the Masters in which failed to make the cut. Prior to that, Hun An was last seen at the WGC-Dell Match Play where he was forced to withdrawal after 11 holes when facing off against Rafa Cabrera Bello. There is the old adage that says beware of the injured golfer. Hun An has been dealing with some very nagging neck issues and while he figures to have recovered (he’s just 24 years old), it’s unlikely he’ll be sharp for four rounds at this event.

Jamie Lovemark is a pro with power that can convert eagles, which is always nice to have in your back pocket in these head-to-head match-ups. Lovemark has four top 10’s and another three top 25’s this season and he seems to be trending despite his slip-up at Harbour Town. Regardless, this guy hits ’em long (9th in driving distance) and he knows how to scramble (7th). We’ll take Lovemark to beat Hun An and we’ll play Lovemark to win this event outright as well. (Risking 2.06 units to win 2).

To win the Zurich Classic outright: All wagers made at Bet365

Charles Howell III: Pinnacle +45.95-1 Bet365 +45-1

Howell is almost always solid, as he likes to stick around on the weekends. Breaking down his recent performance reveals that CH3 finished in the top 7 in Houston before his T23 at the RBC. He leads the TOUR with 31 rounds under 70 and ranks ninth in adjusted scoring, two stats that help set him apart from others in this price range. We’re going to play these at BET365 because that outfit has a cash-out option if your man is in contention on the weekend and it’s something we missed with our Brandon Steele pick last week at the Valero Open because we played it at Pinnacle.

Russell Henley: Pinnacle +61.27-1  Bet365 +60-1

This year marks Henley’s first attempt at TPC Louisiana but his putter has helped him excel as of late and should be a key factor in getting Russell noticed this week. Henley comes into Louisiana ranked T59 in GIR (greens in regulation) and he sits within the Top 15 in Strokes Gained Putting. The biggest reason we like Russell this week is due to his recent performances. Examples include his T5 in Houston which he then followed up with a T23 in Hilton Head.

Morgan Hoffman: Pinnacle +112.31 Bet365 +125-1

It would be easy to pick Jason Day, Justin Rose or perhaps even Ricky Fowler to win this event and should that happen, it would surprise nobody. However, we’re looking for undervalued pros at big odds and in that regard, Morgan Hoffman is another player who has performed well here at the Zurich. Hoffman has made it to the weekend in all three of his attempts here and has a sub-70 scoring average on this track. He makes a lot of eagles and can handle his putter very well.  Needless to say, his game has been a bit shaky this season but he snapped a streak of four missed cuts to bank a T23 in Hilton Head. At 125-1 odds, Morgan is a low risk/high reward play that could pay dividends.

Jamie Lovemark Pinnacle +56.16  Bet365 +55-1

See our head to head matchup for our analysis on Lovermark.

NOTE: We are risking 0.3 units on each of the above four golfers to win outright for a total risk of 1.2 units
